About us

A beacon for businesses the industry overlooks

There is plenty of security for large enterprises. There is far too little for small and medium businesses, even though they are attacked the most. Noroshi exists to close that gap: serious monitoring, plain language, honest prices, made in Europe.

Why Noroshi exists

Small businesses are the favourite target of internet crime, but security software is mostly built for enterprises: complicated, often non-European, and expensive. Noroshi was started to keep proper security low-threshold and affordable for everyone, so that smaller companies stay safe too.

The result is external security monitoring that watches your website, DNS and e-mail configuration every day, explains every finding in plain language with a concrete fix, and never asks you to become a security expert. You can read exactly what it does and does not do on our scanner and security & privacy.

The name: noroshi, the signal fire

Noroshi (狼煙) is the Japanese word for the signal fires and smoke signals that were raised from hilltops and watchtowers across the country, centuries before telephones. One fire warned the next hill, the next hill warned the next village, and a threat announced itself across the whole region within hours. The characters literally mean “wolf smoke”, borrowed from an old Chinese practice, but in Japan they became the classic image of an early warning that travels fast.

That is exactly what Noroshi does for your business: a watchman that keeps looking, and that raises the signal the moment something on your outside perimeter changes. The flame in our logo is that beacon: blue to yellow to red, calm colours when everything is fine, warm severity when it is not.

Why choose Noroshi

Eight reasons, all of them visible in the product today.

Built for SMEs, not for security teams

Every finding comes with a plain-language explanation and a step-by-step fix. Incident playbooks tell you what to do, in order, when something goes wrong. No jargon wall, no consultant required.

Outside-in, and nothing else

We observe your external posture the way an attacker would see it: headers, TLS, DNS, ports, exposed files, uptime. No agents to install, no credentials to hand over, no intrusive testing on your systems.

European by design

Hosting, database, backups, e-mail delivery and payments all run with EU providers. Our vulnerability intelligence comes from CIRCL in Luxembourg. No US-hosted dependency anywhere in the product.

Privacy-first, no trackers

Noroshi never places cookies or trackers on your website, and never profiles your visitors. We store only what monitoring needs: hashes and structural metadata, with short retention per data type.

Signals, not noise

Every unique fact alerts exactly once, always with a concrete fix attached. We verify before we alert, so a single failed probe never triggers panic. Alert categories are yours to switch on or off.

NIS2-ready evidence

The NIS2 overview maps our checks to the risk-management measures of article 21(2), exportable as a dated PDF for your auditor, bank, insurer or IT partner. Plus monthly and yearly reports.

Fair, simple pricing

A free plan to start, then €6 per month for the first domain and €4 for each extra. Priced per domain, not per employee: a five-person company pays the same as a forty-person one.

Actively developed

Recently shipped: alert webhooks for your ticketing or chat, supplier watch for the parties you depend on, daily scans, uptime monitoring, brand protection against lookalike domains, checkout tamper detection, CVE matching, score trends, monthly threat briefings and a full report suite. More is on the roadmap, including more interface languages.

Who is behind Noroshi

Noroshi is built by David Hildering , a Dutch software engineer specialised in privacy-respecting, European software for small businesses: tools that do their job quietly, explain themselves in plain language, and are affordable enough to run for years.

He also builds MetriXs , a privacy-first web analytics platform: cookieless measurement of traffic without tracking individual visitors or selling data to third parties, fully GDPR-compliant by design.
